Matchups

A matchup is a point-in-time competitive teardown of one named competitor, refreshed in place as the rival changes:

/deliberate matchup <competitor>

The workflow should examine positioning, product behavior, proof, tradeoffs, and strategic implications. It is not a generic feature matrix and should not manufacture certainty where public evidence is thin.

A useful matchup distinguishes:

  • verified competitor claims and observable behavior;
  • your project’s current position;
  • meaningful similarities and differences;
  • implications for strategy, messaging, or product work;
  • unanswered questions that require further research.

It also turns the strongest actionable insights into a short list of recommended cases. Each candidate names the product, market, strategy, or platform decision, the matchup insight that triggered it, why analysis matters now, and what decision it would unlock. Routine execution and bounded research remain direct opportunities.

After saving the matchup, the agent offers Open for review + run cases (default), Open for review only, and Other rather than defaulting to another landscape brief. The default opens the matchup in Sonorance while the recommended case analyses run. If no consequential unresolved decision exists, it does not manufacture one.

Register relevant sources before running the command so the teardown can cite durable evidence.
